Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria Clinical Trials: What is Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria?

Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), also known as chronic idiopathic urticaria, is a skin condition characterized by the recurrent appearance of hives (urticaria) that persist for more than six weeks without an identifiable cause. Urticaria, commonly known as hives, are red, raised, itchy welts on the skin that can vary in size and shape and may come and go over time.

CSU is considered “spontaneous” because the hives appear without any identifiable triggers or external stimuli. It can significantly impact a person’s quality of life due to its chronic and unpredictable nature, leading to discomfort, sleep disturbances, and emotional stress.
